Shailene Woodley tells how she doesn’t feel we should be comparing ourselves to one another if we want to be happy in ourselves.
It goes without saying that comparing ourselves to other people makes us feel bad about the way we are. We start to notice parts of ourselves that we never did before, noticing more and more imperfections as we go on.
But The Fault in Our Stars actress Shailene Woodley feels that this has to stop if we are to have any self confidence at all.
‘I think it’s better to come up with a new idea than to recycle an old one!’
She tells how when she was in school comparing herself to big stars, she remembers how she wasn’t ever happy with her appearance.
‘I tend to think that’s where a lot of our insecurities come from.’
We can’t get away from comparisons and body image in our society, it seems to be something that we obsess over.
Trying to make ourselves ‘better’ or always striving for the ‘perfect image’ is all due down to the images we see on our screens or in our magazines.
And that is why it is so important that our celebrities are the role models we need, not only not giving us unachievable body image ideas (most pictures we see are photoshopped anyway) but also being good people.
The talk of the town is that The Descendant’s actress is becoming the new Jennifer Lawrence due to her down to earth and friendly personality and even with her dislike for comparisons, it is not something she can get away from easily.
But her answer to the claims could not have been more sweet, giving her more likeable points.
‘I think Jen is just incredible and if they’re going to compare me to anyone, she’s definitely the person I would choose.’
Shailene has been classed as ‘Young Hollywood’ and if she is an example of what type of person we will start to see, there is hope for us yet.
The Fault In Our Stars is out in cinemas on the 20th of June.
