With Deadpool director Tim Miller leaving Deadpool 2 after some creative differences with Ryan Reynolds, there were worries about Deadpool 2, the status of the movie was up in the air, the movie now appears to be back on track with John Wick director David Leitch taking the vacant seat behind the camera.

While we’re all waiting to hear more on deadpool 2 casting, for roles like Cable (said to be an issue between Miller and Reynolds) and Domino (who has a shortlist of actresses that were in contention for the role) there does seem to be one more Marvel Comics character Ryan Reynolds wants to bring to the franchise: Wolverine.

Speaking recently with Entertainment Weekly, Reynolds let a pipe dream be known for the Deadpool franchise, involving clawed mutant Wolverine (who’s been portrayed by Hugh Jackman for over 16 years now) Reynolds had the following to say:

“I want Deapdool and Wolverine in a movie together. What we’re gonna have to do is convince Hugh. If anything, I’m going to need to do what I can to get my internet friends back on board to help rally another cause down the line.”

While many fans would love to see Deadpool and Wolverine in the same movie, and in a way that was done right, unlike their battle in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was an abomination that we’d love to erase from our minds. We’d love Deadpool and Wolverine teaming up, maybe even fighting each other like in the comics, The real question though is, would Hugh Jackman ever be up for the role?

Reynolds and Jackman have a friendly relationship, the latter actor is set to declaw after one more role in Logan, hitting cinemas in March 2017. Hugh has played Wolverine for a long time and it ready to move on after what looks like a satisfying send-off for the mutant (if the Logan trailer is any hint).

It’s worth noting though, that with Deadpool 2 presumably not reaching screens until 2018, the earliest we may see a third film in the Deadpool franchise may be 2020, this means that if Hugh Jackman could be reeled in to come back as Wolverine, 2019 may be the earliest he’d be needed, It may take quite a bit of convincing to get Jackman to return after Logan.

Of course, we all thought seeing a Deadpool movie, especially an R-rated flick, was a pipe dream, and Reynolds and his “internet friends” convinced 20th Century Fox to take a chance on the Merc with the Mouth and it ended up being one of their biggest hits. We’ll keep our own claws crossed and bug Jackman about it until he gives in.
