Marvel Studios has no plans to make a fourth Iron Man film, according to Robert Downey Jr.
The actor, who has played series protagonist Tony Stark since 2008, told Variety that no further sequels are in development.
“There isn’t one in the pipe,” he said. “No, there’s no plan for a fourth Iron Man.”
Downey Jr has portrayed Iron Man in four films to date (five if you count his post-credits cameo in The Incredible Hulk) and is due to reprise the role for next year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.
His Iron Man co-stars have previously weighed in on the possibility of a fourth film, with Gwyneth Paltrow casting doubt on the idea and Don Cheadle sounding more optimistic.
Directed by Joss Whedon, Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released in cinemas on 1st May next year.
