After three years of waiting, fans will finally be able to watch Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice this week.

The Dark Knight and the Man of Steel face off in one of the most anticipated films of the decade that will see almost the entire Justice League of America make their cinematic debuts.

With only a few days to go, we have a basic premise of what we can expect from Batman vs Superman. Following the events of Man of Steel, Bruce Wayne (Batman) takes it on himself to take down Superman before he causes any more destruction.

Wayne isn’t the only one who’s after Superman it seems too, with him being pulled to court by the American government to answer to his actions in Man of Steel.

Behind the scenes, seemingly orchestrating the battle between Superman and the rest of the world is super villain Lex Luthor.

The title has always hinted that Batman and Superman will eventually make up and this was confirmed in a later trailer where we see nefarious Justice League villain Doomsday let loose. The same trailer also gave fans a better look at Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman standing side by side with our titular characters.

This seems then to be the basic plot of the film and whilst some fans were disappointed at the reveal of the films main villain, there is definitely more to come from this film especially as its being followed by two Justice League films. DC have already released a lot of clips from the film in the form of trailers and a number of TV spots and while some may been overly excessive, the films confirmed running time should give fans the assurance that there is still a whole new film to be watched.

Sitting at a lengthy two and a half hours long, Batman vs Superman is very likely to spring a few more surprises onto fans that have yet to be revealed.

What we do know however is that several other members of the Justice League are set to appear in Dawn of Justice, most likely in cameo roles. Jason Momoa’s Aquaman has been confirmed for some time but it was more recently revealed that Ezra Miller’s Flash and Ray Fisher’s Cyborg are also set to appear as well.

Whilst this news was received with positive reactions, it also left many wondering about the absence of one of the most loved heroes of the JLA: Green Lantern. There’s been no official casting news for anyone related to the Green Lantern Corps film coming in 2020 and while the rest of the league was cast pretty quickly after Dawn of Justice was revealed, DC and Warner Brothers have not given much information regarding Green Lantern.

They did confirm however that the Green Lantern Corps are set to appear in the 2017 Justice League film so whether or not there will be a hint to them in Batman vs Superman is hard to tell but it is definitely is a possibility and one that would please fans.

There have also been rumours on the villain side in the shape of Darkseid, long time Justice League foe and super powered supervillain. If there is going to be any hint of Darkseid, then like with the Green Lantern Corps, it would most likely appear as a small scene/cameo which directly links to next year’s Justice League film.

It is difficult to determine what fans can expect from Batman vs Superman; Dawn of Justice but a few observations and guesses can be made. This film looks like it will do justice to the source material in portraying the battles between Batman and Superman as well as the comics have in the past.

By including the large majority of the Justice League, if done right, Zack Snyder will have fans on his side because films like Marvel’s The Avengers have shown that a multi character superhero film is possible if done correctly. Since that film’s release, many fans have been pining for a DC equivalent and in this film they are finally getting their wish.

Action and destruction is guaranteed, which was a criticism of Man of Steel for the sheer amount of destruction caused but with this films premise, I think the inevitable rubble is what will be needed to fully portray the huge action sequences it has promised.

You can expect strong performances from the cast. Henry Cavill has already played the Man of Steel once before to critical acclaim and to those who have already seen the film, Ben Affleck shines as the Caped Crusader as well praise coming in fast for Gadot’s Wonder Woman.

The jury is still out on Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor despite the film not being released yet but as an accomplished actor, you can expect a different but nevertheless great performance from Eisenberg as Lex.

It’s been three years since this film was announced and now, mere hours before its official release, the hype and excitement are higher than ever.

Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice hits cinemas March 25th.
