Oscar Isaac is set to star in the Coen brother’s new 60s music scene biopic Inside Llewyn Davis, but the star has recently admitted he was never much of a singer despite his musical past.
The actor revealed he once fronted a semi successful punk-ska band called Blinking Underdogs. After some local success the actor’s band even toured with the award winning pop punk band Greenday in the late 90s.
Issac said: “I was never much of a singer. I was terrible, it’s embarrassing. I was trying to sound like everybody else. I went through a big Cure phase so I was trying to do that kind of dramatic voice.”
But, the performer’s musical career was short lived when he was accepted into the Juliard school of performing arts.
“The music scene was changing and people were losing interest in the genre, as was I.”
The musician turned actor can be seen belting out folk classics as he stars in the Coen brother’s movie Inside Llewyn Davis. But, despite his shaky musical past the actor knew he would e perfect for the star role.
“My dad was a bit of a frustrated artist so we grew up listening to Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix, all the singer-songwriters. I had a poster of the Coen brothers’ film Miller’s Crossing next to one of the band Nine Inch Nails on my bedroom wall.”
“I’ve seen all of their movies two or three times, some of them way more. Their tone is ingrained in my head.”
Inside Llewyn Davis is released in cinemas this Friday.
