The sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World, has just passed $1 billion mark worldwide, it doens’t have much to go before it eclipses it’s predecessor, which made $1.672 billion worldwide, putting in in second place just behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, for the hghest grossing movie of 2015.

Now, three years later, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is already crushing the overseas box office but would be probably hard to beat Mission Impossible.

It seems that the success of this franchise is based on a fairly simple formula of Chris Pratt’s continued prominence in Hollywood, everyone flocking to see the sequel of one of the biggest movies in recent years, and of course, the continuation of a beloved and classic movie franchise.

With J.A. Bayona at the helm in the director’s chair this time round, taking the role from Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom saw Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing and Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady return to the island of Isla Nublar to save the remaining dinosaurs from a volcano that’s about to erupt.

While there, they soon encounter terrifying new breeds of gigantic dinosaurs, while uncovering a conspiracy that threatens the entire planet.

The dinosaur-stocked fun is not set to come to a halt with with Fallen Kingdom though, as Jurassic World 3 has been confirmed, this time, with Trevorrow returning back to the director’s chair for the third instalment of this franchise.

The movie is still playing in theatres worldwide, so it’ll be exciting to see what the movie’s final gross turns out to be, can it catch up to Marvel’s Black Panther, which grossed $1,346,486,580 worldwide earlier this year, perhaps more importantly, can it match 2015’s Jurassic World in terms of worldwide gross? There’s not long left to find out.
