Jonah Hill has revealed that the cocaine substitute he was made to snort during the filming for The Wolf of Wall Street gave him health problems.
The Superbad star said: “I snorted so much of that stuff, my lungs were filled with powder and I got really sick for a month and a half.”
Scorsese used vitamin D powder to substitute for cocaine in the movie, but in large quantities the vitamin has been known to cause constipation and snorting the powder also caused bronchitis for the LA funny man.
Despite the health problems, Jonah has admitted he would do it again in a heart beat.
“I got embarrassed because I said that it’s every actor’s dream. I guess it’s not, but to me, it’s a pretty iconic thing to do.”
The film tells the story of New York stockbroker Jordan Belfort and his fall from the money and power of Wall Street.
During the film Hill’s impulsive character Donnie appears in an orgy scene during the movie. But, Jonah admits the whole experience wasn’t as glamorous as people may think.
“We had orgy scenes and shooting those was pretty repulsive – naked people in a confined space for 18 hours a day. It was not sexy at all.”
Despite the unglamorous circumstances, Hill insists working under Scorsese’s direction was a dream come true.
“The goal was to work with Martin Scorsese, and I got to do it and that’s all I wanted in my creative life. That was my dream.”
The Wolf of Wall Street hits UK cinemas this Friday.
