George Clooney has announced that he is directing a movie about the News International phone hacking scandal.
The film will be based on the book Hack Attack, written by journalist Nick Davies, who investigated the allegations against Rupert Murdoch’s firm.
“This has all the elements – lying, corruption, blackmail – at the highest levels of government by the biggest newspaper in London,” said Clooney in a statement.
“And the fact that it’s true is the best part. Nick is a brave and stubborn reporter and we consider it an honour to put his book to film.”
Clooney, who is producing the film alongside Grant Heslov and Michael De Luca, has previously tackled journalism in his 2005 movie Good Night, and Good Luck.
The actor’s father, Nick Clooney, is a respected journalist, broadcaster and politician.
