Film releases 2022 UK – a month of cinematic delight awaits

After an unprecedented spell of having to close their doors, the long suffering cinemas saw the year end on a high note with the release of heavy hitters No Time to Die and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

With the first month nearly under our belts, 2022 has big shoes to fill. January has already proven successful with Eternals and Scream, both delighting audiences in equal measure.

Fingers crossed we can enjoy a full year of watching film on the BIG screen, with the release of a whole slate of films, that have been delayed by the pandemic.

Here’s some upcoming silver screen releases to get you excited.

Moonfall (4th of February)

Starring Halle Berry, this Sci-Fi film finds the world on the brink of annihilation when an unknown force knocks the moon from its orbit and sends it hurtling towards Earth.

Humanity’s fate is left in the hands of a conspiracy theorist, NASA executive and man from her past.

Director Roland Emmerich is responsible for other notable Doom’s Day films such as The Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day, the alien invasion classic.

The Eyes Of Tammy Faye (4th of February)

Set in the 1970’s this intimate biopic tells the story of a controversial Televangelist. Tammy Faye Bakker and her husband, played by Andrew Garfield, rise from humble beginnings to create the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and theme park.

They become legendary, but financial improprieties; scheming rivals and a scandal soon threaten to topple their carefully constructed empire.

The film was first shown at film festivals to delighted audiences.

Death on the Nile (11th of February)

Based on the Agatha Christie novel, this murder mystery movie acts as a sequel to the 2017 film Murder on the Orient Express.

The star-studded cast includes everyone from Kenneth Branagh to Black Panther’s Letitia Wright and Sex Education’s Emma Mackey.

Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot’s Egyptian vacation aboard a glamorous river steamer turns into a terrifying search for a murderer.

Interestingly, the films original release date was in October 2020 but was delayed due to controversies surrounding several members of the cast.

Uncharted (11th of February)

Surprisingly, the UK is being blessed with the opportunity to see this action-packed film a week before the US.

The story is a prequal to the Uncharted video game series, a favourite of leading actor Tom Holland. He is also joined on screen by Mark Wahlberg.

Treasure hunter Nick Drake, a descendent of explorer Sir Francis Drake, learns the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city.

Director Ruben Fleischer previously worked on the highly rated Zombieland franchise so there are high hopes for this next endeavour.

Cyrano (25th February)

Starring Peter Dinklage and Haley Bennett, you may have seen this musical advertised on many buses around the city.

Director of the hit film Pride and Prejudice, Joe Wright, has created this drama based on an in-depth look at the 1897 Edmond Rostand play Cyrano de Bergerac.

Critics have already highly rated this film with it receiving 85% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6/10 on IMDb.

The Duke (25th February)

Starring the likes of Helen Mirren and Jim Broadbent this comedic drama is set in 1961.

A 60-year-old taxi driver steals Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London.

He sends ransom notes saying that he will return the painting if the government invests more in care for the elderly.

Famous for Notting Hill, this was directed by Roger Mitchell who unfortunately passed away in 2021 making this his last ever film. The film was finished in 2020 but world release delay was due to the pandemic.

The Batman (4th March)

The highly anticipated addition to the Batman Franchise will see famous Liverpool landmarks featured as part of Gotham City.

The Riddler plays a dangerous game of cat and mouse with Batman and Commissioner Gordon in Gotham City’ is all the information provided about the plot.

Featuring Robert Pattinson in the lead role, this action and adventure film is almost three hours long.

Other famous faces in this cast are as Zoë Kravitz and Barry Keoghan who recently appeared in Marvel’s Eternals.

Even before its release The Batman has been nominated for three Golden Trailer Awards.

Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre (18th March)

Alongside cast member Jason Statham, we’re set to see Hugh Grant out of his comfort zone and no longer playing a charming English gentleman.

Elite spy Orson Fortune and his team of operatives recruit one of Hollywood’s biggest movie stars to help them track down and stop the sale of a deadly new weapons technology.

The thriller mystery movie, directed by Guy Ritchie, is his latest project with Statham as the two have worked together on five other films.

Downton Abbey: A New Era (18th March)

A New Era acts as a sequel to the first Downton Abbey film in 2019 and the much-loved television series than ran for five years.

The Familiar faces of the cast such as Maggie Smith and Penelope Wilton will be returning to host a wedding and embark on a trip to southern France.
Director Simon Curtis was not involved in the previous film or series but, this along with the new setting of the 1930’s will hopefully bring a freshness to the storyline.

The Lost City (25th March)

Another incredibly famous cast with almost too many to name, will bring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, and Brad Pitt together for this rom-com.

A reclusive romance novelist on a book tour with her cover model gets swept up in a kidnapping attempt that lands them both in a cutthroat jungle adventure.

Director Seth Gordon is notorious for this genre of film and with Daniel Radcliffe as the villain, this film will be long awaited by the time it’s released.
