Lionsgate is suing the operators of a variety of filesharing websites after a DVD-quality copy of The Expendables 3 leaked online.

The pirated version of the Sylvester Stallone-fronted sequel is said to have been downloaded more than 189,000 times within 24 hours, a figure that could reach millions by the time of its release.

The studio is taking legal action against a group of anonymous individuals, collectively known as the “John Does 1-10”, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Lionsgate is also seeking an injunction to prevent illegal downloads from continuing and stop operators from moving the offending content elsewhere.

All digital copies of the film and the technical equipment used to pirate it must be turned over if the studio’s court action prove successful.

Directed by Patrick Hughes, the Expendables 3 sees action movie veterans including Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, and Arnold Schwarzenegger team up for a third outing.

The Expendables 3 arrives in UK cinemas on 14th August.
