Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd recently had some strong words for Ghostbusters: Answer The Call director Paul Feig.
Aykroyd appeared on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, and in a shocking attack, exclaimed that he thought Paul Feig had spent too much money on the film, ruining profitability while also refusing to take producers’ advice. Aykroyd went on to say that Feig is no longer welcome at Sony.
“[Ghostbusters] made a lot of money around the world but just cost too much, making it economically not feasible to do another one. So that’s too bad. The director, he spent too much on it. He didn’t shoot scenes we suggested to him and several scenes that were going to be needed and he said, ‘Nah, we don’t need them.’ Then we tested the movie and they needed them and he had to go back. About $30 to $40-million in reshoots. So he will not be back on the Sony lot any time soon.”
Dan Aykroyd spent many years trying to get a third Ghostbusters movie made, prior to the 2016 reboot, he imagined the franchise as the next cinematic universe in a similar vein to the likes of Marvel, so it’s possible that he took the whole issue a bit too personally. The attack was so strong that it’s reportedly been edited out of further airings of the show, so either Aykroyd regrets being so blunt, or there was some discomfort from the studio.
Aykroyd did however reportedly continue to praise the cast of the 2016 film, so his issues do only appear to be with Paul Feig.
