A free festival for the people of a small Baltic Sea city is to be laid on with a “cultural bonus” exacted from the producers of a Hollywood blockbuster.

The citizens of Tallin, Estonia, will be treated to the 37,000 euros shindig that include a family day and music concerts.

As a thank-you for the inconvenience the city’s 400,000 citizens have suffered, with road closures and the like, in the making of the Christopher Nolan film “Tenet”.

Tenet has a budget of $225m. Due for release in July next year, it has been shooting in Tallin for scenes that will make-up about 20 minutes of the action.

Nolan’s films range through thrillers to the superhero genre, cerebral blockbusters and historical epics.

After the release of Dunkirk in 2017, Nolan started to work on Tenet – described as “an epic evolving from the world of international espionage”.

The secretive filmmaker is keeping details of the plot of Tenet a closely guarded secret, but plenty of clues have emerged.

Robert Pattinson, cast in the film, said the script was kept so secret that he was only allowed to read it once, a locked room.

Before the release of Dunkirk, Nolan’s said: “The audience doesn’t know what it wants. It wants to be surprised.”

Tenet will be released on 17 July 2020, following the pattern of summer scheduling for Dunkirk, Interstellar, The Dark Knight Rises, and Inception were which were all released in the third week of July.

The cast includes rising stars, including John David Washington along with Robert Pattinson. It also features Elizabeth Debicki and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clemence Poesy and Dimple Kapadia.

Nolan has also chosen an already faithful companion, veteran actor Michael Caine, who appeared in the Batman trilogy along with key roles in Inception and Interstellar.

Tenet cast and crew will be jetting between seven different countries in the coming months, including India, Italy and the UK.

If the estimated $225 budget is correct, Tenet will sit second behind The Dark Knight Rises which secured a reported budget of $230 million.

Nolan is expected to innovate in Tenet, since that’s what he’s been doing for the past decade.

Sources say the film will deal with a globe-trotting adventure that has shades of the mind-bending nature of Inception and involves playing with the time continuum.

Nolan said “I always try to give audiences something new they haven’t seen before, something maybe not everybody else can do or has thought to do.”
