Chloe Grace Mortez, the star of the hotly anticipated remake of Carrie, has revealed that she uses ABBA to tune out all of the darkness she encounters as an actress.

Shooting to fame as the young psychotic superhero Hitgirl in Kick-Ass, the child star went on to feature in equally dark roles as a vampire in the flicks Let Me In and Dark Shadows. The teen admits that her career takes her to some very dark places.

“Those roles can get you down a bit, but I can always cheer myself up afterwards. Working out helps, but I mostly listen to ABBA.”

In her latest role she plays Carrie, an American high-school student who seeks revenge on her bullies using newly discovered telekinetic powers.

Regarded as one of the best horror films ever created, the original Carrie earned actress Sissy Spacek an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.

But, Chloe says she just wants to do justice to the classic Stephen King novel. One of the biggest challenges will be the infamously gory prom scene that will see Chloe covered in the blood of her bullies.

After filming the scene Chloe admitted “My mum caught me on video on the kitchen table, still in my blood-soaked robe, jumping around to Dancing Queen.”

The actress insists, “I don’t actively look for the losers. I just choose characters which are the very opposite of who I am.”

Carrie is in cinemas everywhere from November 29th.
