Comedy legend Bill Murray has spoken out about why he is reluctant to commit to Ghostbusters 3, saying that he believes in knocking back scripts in Hollywood, so they have to be improved.

He cited the second Ghostbusters film and the Godfather part III as examples of mediocrity, he fears the third sequel could suffer.

But studios are eager to re-launch the franchise and use Ghostbusters 3 to introduce the classic movie to a new generation.

Details of the script reveal that the film would ‘pass the baton’, with cameos from Murray and Co giving advice and good luck to a new generation of paranormal investigators.

But Murray, who is currently gracing our movie sreens in Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel insists there is no rush to dive into making a third movie saying: “first let’s refresh.

“We made the first Ghostbusters – it was one of the great movies, one of the great entertainments of all time.

“Then we made a second one; it was okay, right? Right? So what are we going to do? Are we going to rush to make a third one? It would be great if you could make one that was as good as the first one.”

Expressing dissatisfaction with the initially proposed script, he added: “I find you don’t really lose by saying no in show business.

“If you say no, sometimes they come back with a better script.”

Bill’s words will encourage Ghostbusters fans, that they should not quite lose hope yet, as the 63 year old comedy star has not completely ruled out the possibility of taking part, stating previously: “you know, maybe I should just do it. Maybe it’d be fun to do.”

Harold Ramis, whom Murray had a falling out with after shooting Groundhog Day, died in February, but it has been said by studio insiders that his passing will not prevent the new film being made.
