Iconic 1980’s cartoon BananaMan is looking set to get the full length feature film treatment, sending fans of the fruity superhero into rapture.
If you were around to read Nutty or 80s comics, you will be familiar with the story revolving around school boy Eric Wimp who when he eats a banana, is gifted superpowers and transformed into his alter ego, Bananaman.
This comic became a staple piece in the Nutty and continued to be printed into The Dandy and The Beano.
Bananaman’s popularity continued to soar when it transformed into a cartoon in 1983 staring Tim Brooke-Taylor, Bill Oddie and Graeme Garden, better known as The Goodies.
Rumours of the film started when a website was launched today, www.bananamanmovie.com, which seems to be owned by DC Thompson – the original publishers of Bananaman back when it was a comic strip.
At the moment, the only information the site holds is a hashtag, #peelthepower, but a spokesperson has confirmed that the film WILL be happening.
There has not been a cast confirmed, but there is a script. The team behind the film have expressed their excitement about the project and said they have been overwhelmed by the response to the teaser website in such a short amount of time.
DC Thompson will be co-producing the film and will be helping to bring the Banana Man story up to date.
The path that the team will take in terms of the movies general feel is unknown. Whether it will follow in the path of epics such as Man of Steel, or whether it will go down a more comedic route is not apparent, but all will be revealed when we finally blessed with a trailer.
There is no more news about the film beyond this point, but keep your eyes peeled for more information about your favourite fruity hero.
