Andrej Pejic casted for Sofia Coppola’s The Little Mermaid

Model Andrej Pejic is set to play one of Ariel’s sister in the Sofia Coppola adaptation of the Disney classic animation.

The Australian model has made an impact on the fashion industry with her androgynous title of living a mixed gender lifestyle.

Pejic is one of the first names that has been attached to the project. Her acting skills has been seen in David Bowie’s The Stars (Are Out Tonight) music video and other short projects.

The characters are still vague but with Andrej presence we expect the look of beautiful high fashion mermaids.

However, the adaptation of Andersen’s fairy tale is still waiting for a leading role. Emma Watson has been largely rumoured to be apart of the film. From Emma’s previous role in The Bling Ring, fans are hoping to see the Harry Potter actor play Ariel in Sofia’s remake.

Sofia Coppola has been having talks with both Universal and Working Title on her newest project. The director most known for her dream like mood will be gracing cinema screens next year with The Little Mermaid which still In planning.

This version will tell the tale with a dark twist. Coppola’s feminine cinematography will be contrasted with gothic screenwriter Caroline Thompson’s script.

The writer is known mainly for Tim Burton films such as The Corpse Bride and Edward Scissorhands. This will be an interesting collaboration for the live action version.

The fashionable filmmaker of popular films Marie Antoinette and The Virgin Suicide will be adventuring into the darker side of film.

Sofia Coppola’s films have a reoccurring factor of slow paced narratives with a soundtrack featuring her husband’s band Phoenix.

From teenage dramas to mid life crisis, The Little Mermaid will be something far different from her usual graceful style.
