Following confirmed rumours that a sequel for Army of Darkness is in the works and could tie into a crossover movie with the recent Evil Dead – director Fede Alvarez has denied the news.

But writer and director Alvarez has said these rumours are just hearsay as far as he is concerned.

After-credit-scenes at the end of the recent Evil Dead reboot sparked the rumours that the Argentinian director had plans to combine the Evil Dead universe with Army of Darkness.

Alvarez even went as far as tweeting about Army of Darkness 2, building hope that he might be involved with the project in some way.

Apologising for dashing fans hopes, the director said “Look, I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen.”

In the interview Alvarez spoke about working on the project but leaving in order to focus his attention on other things.

The Evil Dead director sounds final about his involvement in the project, but does admit “I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project.”

It remains unclear if we can still expect an Evil Dead 2, but one thing for sure is it will not have the pedigree of its original directors.
