The amount of people on the planet that have not seen the iconic VW camper van is quite small.

2013 saw the end of it’s life in production, it is now more of a collectors item than the ultimate people carrier for millions.

For anyone that misses the van, there is some good news, it is back.

VW have stumbled on the first step of the staircase by naming he I.D. Buzz, but if you can look past the name, you’re looking at a redesign of a true classic.

From the great colour scheme that creates the classic VW nose, the I.D. Buzz is a gorgeous reimagining of the boxcar design that helped the camper van become an iconic vehicle.

VW are keeping with the forward-thinking approach, with this naturally being an all-electric car. VW claims that it has a theoretical range of 600km and is packed with up to date technologies including fast-charging, which would allow it to be charged 0-80 per cent in just half an hour.

Being a concept of course, this is all very hypothetical but VW claims it would launch with latest self-driving technologies.

The really impressive part is that VW doesn’t plan on it being a concept for long. It envisages the I.D. line of cars going into production in 2020 with self-driving features going live in 2025.

This isn’t just Tesla levels of automation though, according to the German car manufacturer, the driver will have the ability to lightly push on the steering wheel and see it disappear into the dashboard.

At this point, self-driving mode will engage and the driver will be able to swivel his or her seat right round and begin chatting to passengers.

VW have also stated that despite the luxury appearance, the I.D Buzz apparently won’t be just for early adopters, but that’ll it’ll be “affordable for millions, not just to millionaires.”

VW hopes to launch the I.D. range in 2020, starting with the I.D.3, a small fully electric city car that will also be able to achieve the same 600km range that VW is promising for the new Camper Van.
