The week in gaming: news from San Diego Comic-Con inc. Minecraft, Disney and more

Monday 6th July

Mojang have announced Minecraft: Windows 10 edition beta will be available 29 July. Local and online play with gamers who own Minecraft: Pocket Edition will be included as well as: controller, keyboard and touch control options, 8 person co-op local support via local play or Xbox Live. Mojang also unveiled that, for the first time, dual-wielding support and the ability to select a dominant hand will be a feature.

Also The End will be overhauled and a new location End City, boasting parkour opportunities, will be implemented. Those whom already won Minecraft on PC will receive the new edition for free; otherwise the price is £6.50/$10.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, the psychological murder-mystery game, is set to receive a rebuilt PC version that will also port on to PS4. It will be done so using Unreal 4 engine but a retail date has yet to be confirmed; currently it is “A few weeks away”.

Tuesday 7th July

Ubisoft Montpellier’s next venture will be a new Rayman game, however the title is for mobile devices. This is not necessarily a negative given the company’s work on the two previous Rayman console games (as well as Valiant Hearts and Beyond Good & Evil). Rayman Adventures, unlike previous mobile Rayman games, will not be an auto-runner but instead offer exploration, a free range of movement and run at 60fps.

Journey, thegamecompany’s critical acclaimed digital download game, is to be ported on to PS4 later this month. Date and price is yet to be confirmed but the release will support Cross-buy for free.

Wednesday 8th July

Disney has announced Infinity 3.0, focusing on Star Wars universe, European release is 28 August on all platforms. North America will receive the bundle two days later.

Team 17 have confirmed development of a new Escapists game which will serve as a licensed spin-off of The Walking Dead franchise. Due later this year the title will be, awkwardly, called The Escapists: The Walking Dead. Players will assume the role of Rick Grimes as he works with the cast of

the original comic against the titular zombies. Similar to the previous Escapists game, Rick must plan escape routes for his fellow survivors in situations taken from the comic books.

Thursday 9th July

All previous Doctors are included in Warner Bros. Lego Dimensions however only Pete Capaldi has provided voice work for his version of The Doctor. Jenna Coleman and Michelle Gomez, who play Clara Oswald and Missy respectively, have also reprised their roles for voice work.

A brand new trailer Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Zombie Mode, entitled Shadows of Evil, was shown at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. Starring Jeff Goldblum, Heather Graham, Neal McDonough, Ron Perlman, and Robert Picardo players will control super powered humans fighting against hordes of various undead creatures. The setting appears to be within 1940s, inspired by; film noir, witty quips and smart suits.

Treyarch studio Mark Lamia stated, “The development team has packed Shadows of Evil with more gameplay and fun than any other experience before it, and has an appropriately twisted and deep narrative, performed by fantastic acting talent, that will keep our fans spinning. ”

Capcom revealed Ken will return in Street Fighter V. Interestingly the long-standing fixture of the Street Fighter series showcases both a brand new fighting style, to differentiate from Ryu, and a new look; sporting a blonde ponytail and updated costume. In regard to the fresh fighting style Ken will utilise a V-Skill, the quick step, and a V-Trigger move, Heat Rush, as well as a more aggressive approach to combat.

Friday 10th July

Jordan Henderson, Liverpool’s newly appointed captain following the departure of Steven Gerrard, will feature on the new Fifa 16 cover alongside Lionel Messi. Henderson won an eight week voting poll which included many other stars such as; Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane and Thibaut Courtois.
