The week in gaming: inc. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Samsung’s Gear VR and more

Here are some of the main talking points from in this edition of The Week in Gaming.

Monday 21st September

Chris Keller has placed Allison Road, dubbed the spiritual successor to the unfortunately cancelled P.T., on Kickstarter. The reason for this is due to the opportunity to expand on the game with a full, complete story as well have the ability to focus on other areas and hire more development staff.

The similarities between the two games are drawn from aesthetics however Allison Road will focus more on exploration and interaction with objects i.e. the ability to pick up and use items. Also the passage of time affects experience as the game Allison Road’s psychological horror will develop throughout.

Keller is aiming for a full release, within a select time frame, on PC, Steam, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

Tuesday 22nd September

Dragon Age: Inquisition is receiving a Game of the Year Edition. Due 6th October the new edition includes; at includes the main game and all of its DLC such as Jaws of Hakkon, The Descent and Trespasser.

Developer IO Interactive has announced that Hitman will be delayed until 2016.

Wednesday 23rd September

Neil Druckmann has clarified rumours regarding The Last of Us 2, stemming mostly from last week’s alleged accident and Nolan North’s previous comments. In an interview with Official Playstation Magazine, available online, the creative director stated he was involved in developing multiple ideas for a sequel including; a new story with new characters and new ideas for Ellie and Joel.

He also mentioned work on a possible sci-fi game and fantasy title however, “we were working on stuff, but we don’t know what we’re doing next and we won’t know until probably a few months after we finish Uncharted 4.”

Thursday 24th September

Samsung’s Gear VR, developed with Oculus, will release worldwide in November 2015 and will be priced at around £65/$99. The retail model will compatible with all of Samsung’s latest smartphones, including the Galaxy Note 5, S6, S6 Edge, and the S6 Edge Plus.

The awkwardly titled The Escapists The Walking Dead will launch 30 September on Xbox One and PC.

The game is a standalone spin-off from the main prison escape simulator series. The Walking Dead variation features five stages influenced by the graphic novels of the same name including; Greene Family Farm, Meriwether Correctional Facility, Harrison Memorial Hospital Woodbury and Alexandria.

EA has announced the Star Wars Battlefront Beta will launch 8th October on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. The beta is open, meaning available to all without needing to sign up, closing 12th October. It can be pre-loaded via Origin Wednesday 7th October 9am (UK time) and will. Three modes will be available to play; Walker Assault on Hoth, Drop Zone on Sullust and Survival Mission on Tatooine.

Assassins Creed Syndicate will include a transgender for the first time the in the game series’ history. The character is called Ned Wynert, a trans male who acts one of several quest givers for Jacob and Evie Fry, the game’s respective Assassins. It should be noted that there appears to be no mention or reference to the fact Ned is transgender in-game.

Ubisoft has also updated Assassin’s Creed’s standard opening statement to now explain events are “Inspired by historical events and characters, this work of fiction was designed, developed, and produced by a multicultural team of various beliefs, sexual orientations and gender identities.”

Friday 25th September

As revealed during TwitchCon keynote a Twitch app will be available on Playstation 4 later this year. Justin Roiland, co-creator of Rick and Morty, is collaborating with William Pugh, one of the two developers of The Stanlet Parable, on a VR game.

TT Games has suggested there is a three year plan in place for the upcoming Lego Dimensions, the new addition to the competitive interactive toys to games market. In an interview Mark Warbuton, associate producer, stated “We’ve created the technology to the degree that we’re happy it meets our needs for the future. We’ve created the toy pad so that it shouldn’t need to be updated. And we can just create new level and character packs to keep expanding that.”

The game will feature a huge array of various TV and film franchises in Lego form. It will cost £99 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, or £89 for last generation consoles. Similar to Disney Infinity the game will have add-on packs starting with Wave 1, available next week, costing around £200.

Wave 2 is slated for December with Wave 3 in January 2016, Wave 4 in March and Wave 5 in May.
