After a small teaser that Marvel would treat its fans with an announcement on the 26th January, many assumed it would be movie based or even something occurring in the comics. They were both wrong.

Marvel have teamed up with Square Enix studios Crystal Dynamics, the same team behind big game releases such as Rise of the Tomb Raider, to create a game around their most famous superhero group: The Avengers.

The announcement was made via the use of a small teaser trailer highlighting some of the key Marvel characters, possibly set in the future.

Nothing is known about the game other than what Square Enix have unveiled in their description below:

“The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled long-time fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018.”

This is the third big gaming announcement Marvel have made, starting with Insomniac studios’ Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4 and continuing with Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy series. Marvel and Square Enix have even gone as far to say that there could be more games to come, stating: They are joining forces to create a “multi-year, multi-game partnership”.

There is no more information surrounding this new project at the current time, not even a date.

There is a chance that the game could be released alongside the next cinematic outing for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War in 2018.
