Gamers have slammed Microsoft for releasing an online promotion for the Xbox One that has been deemed sexist.

The badly planned campaign took the form of a customisable email that allowed gamers to select between options like, “I know you would rather be knitting instead of watching me slay zombies.”

No genders were actually mentioned in the letter, however many took to Twitter convinced that it was aimed at the girlfriends and wives of gamers.

Microsoft were quick to react to the criticism and altered the form to read “you’d rather watch cat videos on the internet” or “take a bubble bath with a piranha” before abandoning the pre selected choices all together.

The company said in a statement, “The letter is customisable and we meant no offense, but understand how the defaults could be perceived.”

This is not the first time Microsoft have overshot the mark with the marketing of the Xbox One.

The company famously made numerous policy reversals after the company was criticised for abandoning their gaming fans the seek a more casual entertainment audience.
