This week marks the 25th anniversary of the UK cinema release date for the Mike Myers’ iconic hit movie Wayne’s World.
Purple Revolver gonna be down at The Merchant this Wednesday night screening the movie to celebrate, with tasty Nightcrawlers Pizza, some boss bevvies and free entry. So there’s no reason not to party on!
Before then though, we’ve got some cool facts about the 1992 classic:
1) Although main character Wayne Campbell lives with his parents, we never see his parents throughout the entire film.
2) Wayne’s World is the second film based on Saturday Night Live, the first being 1980’s The Blues Brothers.
3) Garth’s drum solo lasts for 36 seconds. In addition to this, Dana Carvey is actually playing the drums in that scene.
4) Mr. Doughnut Head Man, Garth’s jam doughnut in the scene which Wayne apologizes to Garth is a nod to Mr. Stay Puft the Marshmallow Man from 1984’s Ghostbusters.
5) Mike Myers has said on several occasions that he would have left the film entirely had “Bohemian Rhapsody” not been included. Producers originally wanted a Guns N Roses song but Myers insisted on the Queen classic.
6) During the famous car hood scene, Mike Myers is really laughing, but it’s from exhaustion. Director Penelope Spheeris revealed that the scene was filmed on the last day of the shoot, and the two were in a “laughing fit.”
7) Dana Carvey based the character of Garth Algar on his real brother, Brad, who has been described as having the same “shy smile and soft, occasionally squeaky voice” as Garth, and he loves the drums.
8) Although the film is set in suburban Aurora, Illinois, no parts of the film were actually shot there. Once the movie had been release, Mike Myers came out and said that’d he never even been there.
9) Dana Carvey and Mike Myers had a falling-out after Carvey believed Myers stole his Dr. Evil impression for Austin Powers. The 2 have since made-up again. Phew!
10) Celebrity guests became a staple of Wayne’s World, with Aerosmith and Madonna being two of the most famous of them. Madonna’s appearance in a 1991 fantasy sequence caused a bit of anxiety for Myers, as it featured his first on-screen kiss.
“Alright ok. I was not aware of that.”
If you fancy a cool mid-week night out, definitely come down to The Merchant this Wednesday and enjoy Wayne’s World with us as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the flick! http://bit.ly/2rr0o05
