London’s Victoria & Albert Museum has appointed its first ever Games Designer in Residence.
Sophia George, also chair of BAFTA-winning studio Swallowtail Games, begins the residency thanks to a partnership between the V&A, V&A at Dundee, the University of Abertay Dundee and Ukie.
George first got her break in the games industry through 2011’s Dare to Be Digital competition and as we reported in January, she will now receive a monthly bursary, budget, studio space and help from a support team made up of V&A and Abertay University’s staff.
Sophia said: “I’ll be taking inspiration from these collections, doing public participation programme and workshops just to show the public how amazing games are.
“I think a lot of people think that games is a mostly male hobby.
“But I think it’s great that I’ve been chosen because people will see that young women are involved in games as well.”
