Founder Bobby Ruiz started the Tribal Street-wear brand in San Diego in 1989.
Staying true to its roots in the corners of the street lifestyle, Bobby Ruiz and Tribal have built up a following through depictions of everything from graffiti and hot rods to beautiful women.
Tribal Street-wear is rounding off a quarter-century of life in the marketplace and it continues to flourish today by covering all corners of street lifestyle – from graffiti to hot rods and beautiful women.
About a year ago, Bobby moved the team and inventory into a down-town warehouse.
The Tribal brand is probably best recognized today by its strong logo sets, as seen emblazoned across some of the headpieces.
They make everything from button-ups to sneakers and skateboards and like the vast majority of street-wear, are focussed around bold graphic T-shirts.
Bobby’s brand archives run deep. He’s made the conscious effort to save and protect these keepsakes, from early catalogues to trade-show materials, promotional photographs to vintage stickers, and originals of the clothing.
Pre-Internet, Tribal built its name and credibility through mix-tapes (as in actual cassettes) and video-tape compilations, showcasing their lifestyle.
