The surrealist cartoons from the 1968 Beatles film Yellow Submarine are due to go up for auction later this month in Los Angeles.

The psychedelic animation are set to raise up to £125,000 and feature scenes from iconic Beatles songs All You Need is Love and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

The 80 drawings by German illustrator Heinz Edelmann are printed on celluloid sheets, featuring John, Paul, George and Ringo on their adventure to Pepperland to save it from the music hating blue meanies.

Auction house director Jim Lentz calls the drawings groundbreaking, claiming ‘the film was all about the biggest band in the world is what made it so iconic.’
