Mighty Boosh hero Noel Fielding has revealed he is concerned about how his new series will be received because many viewers are unwilling to leap beyond logic and try to hard to pull apart the story line.
Noel, 38, who cites his own influences as Spike Milligan, Kenny Everett, Captain Beefheart and Salvador Dali, takes us to the dark corners of his mind and a Surrealist jungle for Luxury Comedy.
Speaking about his new E4 show, Noel said that he tried to reign in his lack of logic with the story and setting, but he can’t help push the boundaries of imagination.
He said: “I have to be careful because, a bit like a child, I have no problem with going anywhere.
“With children, you say, ‘There’s a show on telly and there’s cars in it and they’re made out of cake,’ and they just go, ‘OK!’, whereas adults go, ‘What do you mean, “cake”?!’
“Some people have real logic problems, where they need to know what you’re doing. But I like the sort of freedom you find in children, where you can go anywhere and create anything.
“There’s this sense that everything’s happening for me in this weird little place in the jungle.
“You don’t know why I’m there, and I don’t explain, but the hut’s the place where everything stems from.”
Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy begins tonight at 10pm on E4
