Lucha Libre have brought the best of modern Mexican dining to Liverpool and are not content to rest on their laurels, with chef Luis Michel and his crack team working hard to perfect their menu.

The creative chef, who hails from Guadalajara, Mexico, is experimenting with fresh special dishes which challenge your tastebuds and preconceptions.

You have to pin the special dishes down while you can, as they are making a brief guest appearance at weekends and once they’re gone they’re gone.

We urge you to sample these delights, which use the finest and freshest vegetables with rare cuts of prime steak and a unique dash of Mexican spirit.

Purple Revolver made sure we were amongst the first to try their new Gourmet Taco: Braised Ox cheeks cooked in apple, cascabelli chilli, cider and tequila, garnished with mole style sauce and topped with pickled onion and cabbage.

Lucha Libre’s menu is highly inventive and light years ahead of the contemporary dining scene showing dynamic flair to combine Mexican and Chinese elements with the Asparagus & Chinese Brocolli Tacos.

The soft tacos were stuffed with seasonal green and red super-foods, pan-fried asparagus with fresh red chillies and broccoli served on a garlic, spinach and coriander purée, garnished with sweet, succulent cherry tomatoes.

We missed out on The Big Mex burger: Pork, beef, red chilli & cumin burger with smoked chipotle BBQ sauce, cheddar and mozzarella, pickled cucumber and beer-battered onion rings on chorizo and sun-dried tomatoe brioche buns. But we hope to see it make a comeback soon.

Our favourite is the La vaca borracha (the drunken cow) and we’re campaigning to make it a permanent fixture.

The tantalising taste of Onglet cut steak marinated in Negra Modelo beer and ancho chillies, pan-seared and served in a nest of tempura-battered courgettes and purified parsnips was almost too much to take.

We submit. Guac us up, throw away the key.

This weekend also sees the kitchen gurus bring the Aztec Chocolate Cheesecake to the fore, make sure you try this chilli-chocolate delight.
