As one of Purple Revolver’s most anticipated bands of 2017, four-piece indie-rock band, The Hunna, weren’t shy of going all out at the Manchester 02 Ritz on Sunday night.
Formed by Daniel Dorney (lead guitarist) and Ryan Potter (lead vocals and guitar), The Hunna have been preparing to climb the music industry since forming at 16 years old. In their home of Hertfordshire, Dan and Ryan took it upon themselves to find an electrifying monster of a drummer, who is the INSTA-King himself; Jack Metcalfe.
To top it off, Jermaine Angin became the immense prince on bass. The squad of four were united; becoming brothers and having no idea of the effect they would have on the music world.
After spending years supporting other bands, The Hunna have broken their way into the limelight since releasing their debut album ‘100’. They toured the UK and America, including Reading and Leeds festivals, spreading hunna love in every place possible. Now they are back in the UK for more with a second run of the album tour.
Their singles Bonfire and You & Me soared through the Spotify charts, competing against the likes of Adele and more. We have fallen completely in love with their humbleness and promise to meet as many fans as they can after their gigs.
It’s insanity to witness them grow from an unknown band to having girls screaming crazily to keep The Hunna’s shirts, drumsticks and water that get thrown into the crowd.
Purple Revolver had the awesome opportunity of hanging out with the guys before their 2nd show of the ‘100’ tour. We decided to test their bursting personalities with some fun filled questions. They absolutely loved it.
PR: What memories are the best to make together?
Dan: I feel like the guys have made me laugh loads recently.
Jack: When Ryan sings Sycamore Tree and us three are just sat together. It’s always a proud brother moment.
PR: What show has been your favourite so far? You’ve stepped up so much as a band.
Jack: Reading Festival when Dan smashed up the guitar.
PR: Was that planned?
Ryan: It was an idea but the moment in Bad For You was coming up and if Dan was going to do it he had to do it then. All of a sudden I heard ‘CRACK!’
Jack: It felt like our first big rock star moment.
PR: If you could’ve written any song in the world that has already been released by another band/artist, what song would it be?
Dan: I would so go cheesy and choose Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing. Playing it live would be sick.
Jack: I would probably go with Bohemian Rhapsody.
Jermaine: I’m going to say Closer by Kings of Leon. Imagine writing that!
Ryan: If I could choose the whole of The Weeknd’s Starboy album I would. Fresh.
PR: Have you got any more tattoos planned?
Ryan: I’m going to have to get some after this tour. I really want a sycamore seed tattooed somewhere, as well as a big lion on my back.
Jack: I’m booked in for more but I recently got a few smaller ones, like “Skirt skirt” on my leg.
Dan: I got an eye on my arm while we were in Cincinnati on the American tour. I need more though.
Jermaine: I want a bear paw!
PR: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what food would it be?
Jack: Easy – Pizza!
Dan: I’ve recently decided to become vegetarian, so maybe halloumi. Actually, margherita pizza.
Jermaine: I love any type of egg. You can do so much with eggs.
Ryan: Either meatballs, pasta or a good burger. I love food!
Jack: What about Thai Green?
Ryan: This is so hard! Okay I’ll go with a Thai Green curry.
PR: If you could be any Disney character, who would you be?
Ryan: Okay, I know this. I would be Simba from The Lion king. It’s my favourite Disney film.
Jermaine: I’ve got to be Aladdin, or Mowgli from The Jungle Book.
Dan: I’d be Baloo!
Jack: Yes! You’d give everyone hugs. I’d be Beast from Beauty and The Beast. I’d have to shave though for when he becomes the prince…
PR: Ryan, this question is for you because we know how you have a celebrity crush on Kendall Jenner. If you could use any lyrics on the album to sing to her, what lyrics would you choose?
Jermaine: That’s a sick question!
Dan: You’re smashing these questions! This is such a good interview!
Jack: More interviews like this please?
Ryan: Hmm, I think it would have to be the ‘I think I’ve been looking for you all my life, and you ask me what I’ve been doing with my time’ lyrics from She’s Casual. Then to change the mood I’d have to say “I’ll be in your bed wearing red like the rose that you gave to me” from Bad For You. You’ve got to serenade her first.
Purple Revolver is keen and waiting to see The Hunna reach the top. They deserve every word being sung back to them and more.
