Fonseca’s Stanley Street is set to host a unique Japanese Saké tasting evening paired with authentic far eastern cuisine in line with Veganuary.

The event will be hosted by spirits enthusiast Craig McDonald of Eaux De Vie on Wednesday, January 27. He will guide guests through the specially selected Saké whilst exploring the history of this diverse and culinary rich country. The assortment of rice wines will be paired with a four-course feast to complement the flavours and aromas of each drink.

To mark Veganuary, the month-long initiative that encourages people to try out veganism, a vegan option will be available for each course.

General Manager of Fonseca’s, Danielle Youds said: “We enjoy introducing our customers to a range of delicious cuisine and beverages that are not always readily available. Our Saké evening is a great chance to allow diners to enjoy wonderful wines that may sometimes fall under the radar.

“With the New Year underway, we also understand that many of our lovely customers are taking part in Veganuary. We wish to use this opportunity to showcase just how diverse and delightful a vegan diet can be (although we have some beautiful fish and meat dishes for those who aren’t quite yet convinced).”

The evening will begin with an Amuse Bouche of Edamame and Japanese Pickles accompanied by Akashi Tai Sparkling Saké. A Sushi assortment starter of Salmon and Tuna or Avocado and Asparagus will follow paired with Akashi Tai Diaginjo.

For a tapas main course, diners can enjoy Beef Teriyaki or Salt and Pepper Tofu with Sticky Jasmine Rice alongside Akashi Tai Honjozo. The evening will conclude with Deluxe Dark Chocolate Spring Rolls for dessert alongside the outstanding Akashi Tai Yuzushu.

Danielle added: “We are fortunate enough to have continuous high demand for our monthly wine evenings and we are thrilled to kick start this year’s line-up of fantastic events by providing a true taste of Japan with a vegan-friendly twist.”

For Heaven’s Saké will take place on Wednesday, January 27 at 7:30pm and is priced at £29.95 per person. Booking is essential and a non-refundable deposit of £10 is required. A discretionary 10% service charge will be added to parties of six or more.
