Marvel’s heroes are set to wage a Civil War on the big screen this spring, but the superheroes of Marvel Comics are in a war of their own.

Now that Secret Wars has concluded, a new paradigm-shifting event in the Marvel Universe threatens to our heroes: Civil War II, debuting this June, from Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez. The event is a continuation of the 2007 Civil War event by Mark Miller & Steven McNiven, which the upcoming Captain America film is based on.

The event’s details are being guarded, but the synopsis reads: “a mysterious new Marvel character comes to the attention of the world, one who has the power to calculate the outcome of future events with a high degree of accuracy. This predictive power divides the Marvel heroes on how best to capitalize on this aggregated information, with Captain Marvel leading the charge to profile future crimes and attacks before they occur, and Iron Man adopting the position that the punishment cannot come before the crime.”

Marvel has been steadily spilling teasers by acclaimed artist Phil Noto, featuring Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Hawkeye & Medusa. The latest superhero recruit? The merc with the mouth.

Deadpool’s allegiance however, is unclear. While some teasers have been rather clear-cut (Ms. Marvel ripping a photo of her idol), Deadpool’s teaser shows the cheeky superhero wearing the uniforms of the leaders for both sides of the conflict – Captain Marvel & Iron Man.

Protect the future? Change the future? Maybe Deadpool is the answer to it all…
