What’s more inspiring than a story of an absolutely colossal win? The great thing about bingo is that it doesn’t matter how old you are because you can still win the jackpot! You simply have to be in it to win it as a Cumbrian great grandmother found out.

The super lucky 84-year-old from Wigton – who is a grandmother to 8 children, won a cash prize most of us could only ever dream of and is to get the huge sum of £239,966.81 in the wake of scooping the top prize in the National Bingo Game at the Opera Bingo club in Denton Holme, Carlisle. It is the greatest prize in Opera Bingo’s history and developed amid a twofold festival for its clubs crosswise over north and west Cumbria.

There are hundreds of bingo halls dotted across the country whom take part in the ‘The National’ game at all different times. To begin with it wasn’t clear straight away about who the lucky winner was, but much to the players and workers delight at the Carlisle and Whitehaven’s clubs they soon understood that they were in with a chance after calling house on 46 numbers.

It was in her stars…

You never know when you have a win in your stars; literally, it’s always worth taking that chance because sometimes when you least expect it your life could change overnight. You can start playing bingo online really easy by downloading the costa bingo app
on your mobile device. You have probably seen hundreds of tv adverts so have shop around. The moon bingo app is another award winning operator so be savvy and take your time choosing where to play.

The indication that she had won was nothing more than a small printed star on the back of the 84 year old great grandma’s bingo card. This lucky little star also ensured that she would cash in the huge rollover jackpot prize which had accumulated over time and reached £229,905.13. This massive sum was actually on top of the £10.000, which adds up to half of the national game of £20.000 prize fund and £61.50 awarded by the club. The manager of the Denton street bingo club had the pleasure of delivering the wonderful news to the great grandma over the phone. As a regular to frequent the bingo hall she got herself straight home along with her daughter after shed finished the game not giving it much thought and certainly not expecting she could actually win the grand prize.

Mr Graham expressed is excitement and happiness for the winners that night: “While we knew that this lady had called in 46 numbers, we didn’t realise there was a player at our sister club in Whitehaven who had called too and had decided to stay. So, while in Carlisle there were only us staffs hanging around for the results, there were 170 people waiting to hear the news in Whitehaven. To get one player winning it great news, to get two on the same night is amazing, brilliant.”
