Liverpool coffee lovers are buzzing after Bold Street Coffee joined the ‘cream of the crop’ by qualifying for the UK Barista Championship finals in London.
The independent store, which is nestled in the creative hub of the city, has won a faithful following with their thirst for coffee knowledge and service.
Bold Street Coffee Barista Luke Byrne-Perkins won boasting rights as one of Britain’s top 20 after beating off stiff competition at the Northern heat in Lancaster.
Now the 23-year-old will compete at the finals tomorrow, hosted at the ExCel centre in Canning Town, East London.
He will have to impress the tastebuds of four judges by brewing his best espresso, cappuccino and a signature drink in a strict 15 minute routine, under the watchful eye of two other technical judges.
For his signature drink Luke has been hard at work crafting a special ‘deconstructed mocha,’ which intensifies the main flavours, using Venezuelan dark chocolate and shredded lime.
Luke said: “The coffee industry should be guided by flavour and this is our main aim at Bold Street Coffee.
“The signature mocha drink is a chance to showcase our dedication to flavour craft and the finest ingredients.”
Bold Street Coffee owner Sam Tawil said: “It’s satisfying to be recognised for the work we’ve put into perfecting our coffee knowledge by seeing one of our baristas qualify for the national finals.
“We’ve strived to build a successful coffee company based on a strong passion and knowledge about what goes into making the best cup of coffee.
“Our passion is sharing the knowledge with the customers and we hope they enjoy the experience all the more for it.
“We keep learning all the time. We’re still in our first year of business have attracted a loyal customer base and we’ll keep pushing hard to improve.”
