Happy Easter!
Geeks worldwide are filling up cinemas to see Batman vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice, it’s getting many mixed reviews, some loved it, some not so much, but it’s 2 of the biggest Superheroes facing off, it’s a huge battle either way.
Our shot this week comes from Cedric Bacon aka Batced, resident Batman ACBA contributor, it’s more of that this week as he brings us a brilliant shot of Batman looking into the Gotham skyline.
We reached out to Cedric for what inspired this recreation and this is what he told us:
“Ever since the trailer dropped way back towards the end of last year, this and the Trinity shot of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman were probably the most “iconic” images to take away from what we were finally seeing after being teased for so long with stills from the set and even the costumes.”
“”Tell me…do you bleed?” was THE line that hooked me into the film, and coming just four years after the conclusion of Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, to see another iteration of Batman so soon and with a talented performer as Ben Affleck (I don’t care what people say, his turn in Daredevil wasn’t nearly as bad as it’s made out to be) behind the cowl as an older, world-weary Bats had more in line with Frank Miller’s Batman than with the grounded and realistic Nolan.”
“The Batman of Nolan’s films might have used a similar looking armor but within the scope of the fantastic (albeit a little too broody for my tastes) DC Extended Universe it works flawlessly.”
“That being said, that image of Batman looking up into the Gotham skyline shining his signal, seemingly goading Superman on to come down and face him like a man…whatever ones opinion of the film will be, I can state that this will be THE image to take away from, because it encompasses what that silent tension that exists between Batman and Superman truly is: shadowy vigilantism as opposed to hopeful within the law.”
“It’d been a long time since I’d really sat down to do a photo that required as much patience and time as this, just because I was working with differing shades of blue and black with just a hint of yellow to help break up the darkness of monotony, so that elements of Batman and the rest of the scene could be seen clearly without sacrificing itself into the abyss of the dark. What helped was an external flash that I bounced from over head that gave the right pop to the figure, and allowed the armor to sheen better than it would have if I’d gone without it.”
We’d like to give a huge thanks to Cedric for letting us feature his cool shot, you can check out all of his great art on Instagram @batced.
Cheers again Ced, and cheers to you for reading!
